ELSA GLoria-L:
King of the Graphics Hill

ELSA releases GLoria Advanced Driver Edition: New driver set for Windows NT 4.0 provides performance boost of more than 60% as well as new user utilities

San Jose, CA - April 4, 1997 - ELSA Inc. announces the newest, high-performance drivers for the ELSA GLoria-L, the new GLoria Advanced Driver Edition, available immediately from ELSA via CompuServe and the WWW. The new optimized drivers provide astounding 3D performance gains up to 60% and 2D performance gains up to 40%, compared to the previously released drivers. In addition the Advanced Driver Edition contains GLoria Settings, the new configuration tool for 3D applications. GLoria Settings allows the instant optimization of the GLoria-L for more than 20 different 3D applications.

The Advanced Driver Edition provides Windows NT®, OpenGL® 3D performance that exceeds 20 frames per second in the Viewperf CDRS-03 OpenGL benchmark. This level of GLoria-L OpenGL 3D acceleration outperforms many of the newest RISC workstation solutions. Additionally, ELSA engineers have fine-tuned the GLoria's 2D performance. New WinBench 97 performance of 48.4 WinMarks represents a 41% increase in 2D graphics power. Both WinBench 97 and Viewperf 5.0 are application-driven benchmarks designed to reflect graphics performance when using real world 2D and 3D applications, respectively. The combined 2D/3D performance increase makes the GLoria a top performer without any sacrifice.

"I am very pleased to see these dramatic performance gains with the GLoria-L and its new Advanced Driver Edition," said Les Crudele, Vice President of the Workstation Product Division at Compaq. "With this increased graphics performance, the Compaq Professional Workstations set the new benchmark level for Pentium ProR processor-based platforms with a Viewperf CDRS-03 rating higher than 20, outperforming traditional mid-range RISC-platforms by a large margin. More importantly, we have seen highly significant performance increases with some of the most power-hungry 3D CAD/CAM graphics applications, which suggests that the Compaq Professional Workstation 5000TM can become the technical workstation of choice for most engineering, scientific, and creative professionals."

"We are excited to see ELSA continue to develop enhanced drivers for the CAD market. This further enhances TriStar's committment to providing the best overall solution for high-end graphics professionals," says Bob Powers, President and CEO.

"Once more our German engineering team has proven that performance is not limited to hardware. ELSA's main strength lies in driver development. And, the new enhanced driver set is available for our customers free of charge," says Thomas Neubert, VP/General Manager of ELSA Inc.

Additionally, the GLoria Settings allow for easy optimization of the GLoria for 3D applications. A single click in GLoria Settings and the driver is configured for the selected application with optimal 3D settings. GLoria Settings allows for easy addition of custom applications to the selection list as well. Of course, advanced users have the opportunity via GLoria Settings to fine tune the driver to their own liking.

And there is no need to wait, the Advanced Driver Edition is available now. Simply visit ELSA's web page and go to the driver download area (File Area/ Product Software/GLoria). Likewise, the Advanced Driver Edition is available in the ELSA CompuServe forum. The drivers are also available for download from Compaq's web site.

The ELSA GLoria-L graphics controller provides 3D resolutions up to 1600x1200, full texture mapping support, a 32 bit z-buffer and 100% OpenGL functionality. Additional 3D APIs that are supported include HEIDI and Direct3D. Drivers are available for Windows NT® 4.0, 3.51, and Windows® 95.
