ELSA Announces Integration of GLoria-XL Graphics Accelerator in Compaq's New Workstation Series

New Compaq Professional Workstation 5100 delivers powerful solution for high-end visualization and 3D CAD with ELSA GLoria-XL

SANTA CLARA, CA - September 9, 1997 - ELSA today announced that Compaq Computer Corporation (Houston, TX) will incorporate the new GLoria-XL high-end professional graphics accelerator in its new Professional Workstation 5100. With outstanding performance, provided by the ELSA GLoria-XL's unique 48-bit architecture, the Compaq workstation 5100 meets the demanding requirements of workstation power users for applications such as Softimage, ProEngineer, I-DEAS, Sense8, 3D Studio Max and MicroStation.

"We are very excited to continue our relationship with Compaq - the leader in PC quality and innovation," said Thomas Neubert, vice president and general manager for ELSA Inc. "The new Workstation 5100 is another great opportunity for ELSA. We are convinced that the GLoria-XL provides the workstation user with the most powerful graphics accelerator yet."

"With the GLoria-XL, based on 3Dlabs' GLINT MX and GLINT Delta 3D processors, ELSA has once again provided to Compaq a graphics accelerator with outstanding performance and quality," said Neil Trevett, vice president of marketing at 3Dlabs. "The combination of 3Dlabs' technology, ELSA's graphics expertise and Compaq's high performance personal workstations makes for a powerful new entry in the PC workstation market."

The ELSA GLoria-XL is designed for visualization, simulation and high-end 3D CAD professionals. It offers true color at high resolution, expansive texture memory benefits, trilinear MIP mapping, and outstanding OpenGL and HEIDI performance. ELSA GLoria-XL comes equipped with 16MB VRAM and 24MB DRAM (upgradable to 40MB DRAM). 16MB of VRAM allows for high-resolution true color 3D graphics for the most demanding user, and the 40MB DRAM allows texture-hungry applications to run full-speed at any time. Users can take advantage of superior quality graphics acceleration with the GLoria-XL's unique 48-bit-memory architecture. Ergonomic refresh rates and high resolutions are a reality with the 250-MHz RAMDAC.
