ELSA GLoria-L/MX Comes Out Ahead in PC Magazine Systems Review

Dell Workstation 400 with the ELSA GLoria-L/MX Outperforms Competition on Pro/ENGINEER and High-End Graphics Benchmarks

SANTA CLARA, CA - September 11, 1997 - ELSA Inc. today reports that the GLoria-L/MX based Dell WorkStation 400 is a price/performance leader in the September 23 issue of PC Magazine's systems review. Of the applications and general benchmarks tested, the workstation came out as the clear winner. This is consistent with the outstanding performance of ELSA boards, underlining its unique hardware design and the ELSA Software Advantage in drivers and utilities. With the low price of $5875 the Dell WorkStation 400 with the GLoria-L/MX graphics accelerator makes it a "serious contender for your workstation dollars... ideal for CAD, modeling and simulation applications," according to PC Magazine.

In Pro/ENGINEER, the GLoria-L/MX based Dell WorkStation 400 leads the way with a score of 2 minutes and 47 seconds as compared to the Diamond Fire GL 4000 based Micron system with a score of 3 minutes. Pro/ENGINEER is a line of software for mechanical design, large-assembly management, functional simulation, manufacturing and product data management. ELSA has enjoyed a long standing relationship with PTC and collaborates on certification efforts with its workstation partners such as Dell to increase our performance to meet the CAD professionals needs.

The Dell/ELSA system also topped both the high-end Winstone and high-end graphics Winmarks with scores of 35 and 36 respectively. In Photoshop with the Gaussier Blurr test, the Dell/ELSA system scored 6.8 seconds versus 19.8 seconds for the HP Vectra W 6/2 (this was a dual Pentium Pro 200-MHz system). Except for the HP system, all the others tested were Pentium II, 300-MHz systems with 128 MB RAM, Windows NT 4.0 and service pack three and a 4 GB SCSI hard drive with a NTFS partition.

"We are very happy to be working with Dell," says Thomas Neubert, vice president and general manager of ELSA Inc. "The Dell WorkStation 400 with the GLoria-L/MX clearly is the right choice and the PC Magazine benchmark results underline the powerful performance for any high-end workstation professional."

"The combination of 3Dlabs technology and ELSA's proven hardware and software expertise has produced the GLoria-L/MX accelerator - which is enabling Dell to outperform its competition in leading 2D and 3D benchmarks," said Neil Trevett, vice president of marketing at 3Dlabs. "3Dlabs looks forward to continuing its close relationship with ELSA to produce graphics solutions that meet the needs of OEMs and end-users alike."
