January 6, 1999 - ELSA AG in Aachen, Germany, reports that the Compaq EMEA B.V. distribution partners, Magirus Datentechnik, CHS/Metrologie and Raab Karcher Elektronik will be supplying the Compaq AP500 and SP700 Professional Workstations with the ELSA GLoria-XXL high-end graphics solution, effective immediately. The successful cooperation of ELSA and Compaq will thus be continued with the top product of the ELSA GLoria family. This ELSA graphics solution permits the deployment of the most demanding TrueColor 3D applications in the CAD and Digital Content Creation (DCC) fields, as well as the use of shutter glasses for stereoscopic virtual reality displays. Since 1996, ELSA has been supplying-as the first-ever European manufacturer of graphics boards-high-end 2D and 3D graphics solutions for Compaq.

The ELSA GLoria-XXL is based on the 3Dlabs GLINT MX graphics processor and the GLINT Gamma geometry setup processor. It is equipped with 16-MB VRAM and a 24-MB DRAM local buffer which can be expanded to 40-MB DRAM. Even at a resolution of 1920 x 1080, the ELSA GLoria-XXL permits ergonomic refresh rates of up to 89 Hz in TrueColor with double-buffering support. Refresh rates of over 100 Hz are achievable at the standard CAD resolution of 1280 x 1024.
The ELSA Software Advantage, with graphics and application drivers as well as a range of convenient utilities is included with the ELSA GLoria-XXL. Software solutions including Softimage, Pro/Engineer, EDS Unigraphics, AutoCAD® R14, Autodesk® Mechanical Desktop, SolidWorks, ALLPLAN FT, CADdy++, LogoCAD, MicroStation, I-DEAS and 3D Studio MAX R2.x are supported.
Alternatively, the Compaq AP500 and SP700 Professional Workstations are available with the ELSA GLoria Synergy graphics solution for entry-level 2D/3D and multi-screen applications.
