Salvatore Alba, the product manager responsible for ELSA's range
of monitors, explains that turnover in 1997 improved by 36% over
that of the preceding year.
The ELSA ECOMO range includes high-quality, ergonomic monitors starting with a screen diagonal of 17" for all PC and Macintosh compatibles. The product spectrum includes 17", 20", and 21" monitors, up to the top-of-the-range 24" models in 16:10 wide-screen format. ELSA is the world-wide market leader in the market for 24" monitors, which are especially popular in the field of PC-based computer aided design (CAD).
Equally impressive are the increases in market share for the other monitor sizes. 1997 saw a 40% increase in the sales of 17" models compared with the year before. The 20" range also experienced a significant boost with an increase of around 30%. The latest figures reveal ELSA as Europe's market leader in 20" monitor sales, a model line which alone saw more than 12,000 units shipped from the monitor center in Aachen.
Factors leading to this success, according to Salvatore Alba, include most significantly the ELSA Service Concept and the sharply calculated sales prices of the previous year: "Within one year, ELSA could almost double the volume of ECOMO units sold. A vital requirement for this in a crowded market is to establish a high demand for ELSA products. Experience has shown us that this kind of growth is only possible where the level of quality is just as outstanding as the value-for-money pricing. Admittedly, ELSA also profits from the recent market trend of buyers' deciding on high-quality large monitors. We observe that this change arises from the increased awareness of the importance of ergonomic work places. We first introduced this concept of 'Quality and Service for Professionals at Consumer Prices' in 1997. ELSA will continue to develop this concept in the future."
ELSA recently extended the range with a new 19" monitor. These monitors are increasingly popular due to the 30% display area advantage compared to 17" models-with a comparable construction depth. Dealers will be stocking the ECOMO 19H98 with its first-class Trinitron CRT technology as of Summer 1998.
ELSA is also aiming to enter the promising market for flat-screen monitors. An ELSA TFT prototype model was recently introduced to representatives of the trade press and a body of experts, which promptly resulted in the presentation of the "iF Design Award" (Industry Forum for Design, Hannover). The ECOMO LC-150 will also be available as of mid-1998 and comes with a fully digital ELSA graphics board for optimal operation.
