ELSA Brings Revolutionary 3Dlabs Chip Technology Into Play with the WINNER™ and GLoria™ Graphics Boards

PERMEDIA® 2 with the WINNER 2000/Office and GLoria Synergy Boards

Aachen, Germany - ELSA, a leading international manufacturer in Data Communications and Computer Graphics announces their support of the revolutionary PERMEDIA 2 high-performance graphics chip from the 3D specialists 3Dlabs.

The graphics performance of the PERMEDIA chip, currently equipping the ELSA GLoria-S, will be further improved as of fall 1997 with the introduction of the PERMEDIA 2.

The PERMEDIA 2 chip provides compelling graphics performance from the fully-integrated GLINT Delta geometry processor for accelerating 3D transformations, from the high-performance 230 MHz RAMDAC, and through the quality video playback on PCs. The PERMEDIA 2 graphics chip is compatible not only with the PCI bus, but also with the advanced AGP bus and offers outstanding display speeds for 2D and 3D graphics.

The 2D/3D graphics engine of the PERMEDIA 2 graphics chip supports the important Windows® 95 Direct3D standard and the professional interface OpenGL®, as used on Windows NT®-based platforms.

The ELSA WINNER 2000/Office and ELSA GLoria Synergy graphics boards will be available as of fall '97 and will meet the demands for sophisticated PC-based applications across a wide spectrum.

The ELSA WINNER 2000/Office will significantly raise the performance standard for graphics in the commercial Office sector. Especially relevant here is the excellent 2D performance for word processing and spread sheet programs, the integrated video functions for quality full-screen MPEG playback, and the high-speed texture-mapping functions so critical for the full appreciation of the latest Windows 95 games, for example.

Application of the ELSA GLoria Synergy graphics board will mainly be in the CAD and creative industry sectors. The GLoria Synergy's role as the ideal graphics solution for OpenGL-based 3D applications and for the significant CAD applications is strongly reinforced by ELSA's special CAD drivers such as POWERdraft™. The display generation of the PERMEDIA 2 is up to two times better than that of its already impressive predecessor.

ELSA WINNER 2000/Office and ELSA GLoria Synergy will of course be fully compatible for the coming Windows® 97 and Windows NT® version 5.0 and will be available as of September 1997.
