LANCOM Applications

All functions may be configured simultaneously.

Internet Access
LANCOM connects your LAN (Local Area Network) to an Internet service provider's system (e.g. CompuServe, AOL). This permits a fast, simple connection to the ultimate network for every workstation in your local company network. Extensive security and firewall functions protect your internal network against unauthorized external access. One of these protective mechanisms is IP masquerading, in which the LANCOM conceals all workstations in the LAN behind a single IP address while accessing the Internet. This provides an exceptional degree of security, as none of the workstations can be reached from the outside via their internal IP addresses. In addition, IP masquerading eliminates the necessity of purchasing costly IP addresses.

Network Coupling
In today's business environment, branch and sales offices depend on continuous contact to their headquarters. These communications links must be simple and - above all - fast.
With a LANCOM at the headquarters and another at the branch office, every computer in each of the networks receives cost-effective, transparent access to the remote LAN. What's more, two parallel connections to different remote stations are also available.

Remote Access
In addition to its network interconnection functions, the LANCOM can also be used as a remote access server. Field staff equipped with ISDN adapters can thus access all of the data on the company network from home or while on the road. The remote access functions can also be used for the remote configuration and maintenance of the LANCOM router.

ISDN Office Communications
LANCOM is the ideal solution for all modern office communications requirements. The ELSA LANCAPI - included with the router provides convenient office communications functions in conjunction with the ELSA-RVS-COM communications software suite. A single LANCOM handles all of the services required in a modern office. Faxes can be sent and received from any workstation, answering machine functions provided, etc. Other applications can also use the CAPI 2.0 interface provided by the ELSA LANCAPI without the physical presence of an ISDN card in the PC.

Digital/analog Converters and Telephony
In addition to the functions of the ELSA LANCOM 1000 Office, the ELSA LANCOM 2000 Office has 4 a/b ports permitting the connection of analog telephones, fax machines or modems. This eliminates the need for additional investments for digital terminal equipment. The a/b ports also support modern supplementary functions such as call forwarding, callback, alternation between lines, call holding and 3-party conference calls.
