This image shows the marketplace of Aachen (Aix la Chapelle), the city where the ELSA headquarters is located. Aachen is situated in the far west of Germany, directly at the borders of Belgium and the Netherlands. In the right part of the picture you can see the historic city hall, built in the 14th century on the foundations of the imperial palace of Charlemagne (Charles the Great), who reigned over a big European empire in the 8th century. In the 17th and 18th century the city hall was rebuilt in baroque style. In front of the city hall you can see the Charlemagne fountain.
