Before updating from Windows 95 to Windows 98 the miro driver software has to be de-installed and the PC has to be turned off. The miro Driver Version 3.36 must be installed AFTER Windows 98 had been installed on the machine.

After inserting the original miro driver CD-ROM an installation screen automatically pops up. When installing from a miro "Support-CD" the program setup.exe has to be run from directory \DRIVER\COMMUNI\C34-MO. On "miroMEGA CD" you’ll find this program in the directory \DRIVER\C34. Follow the instructions and choose the option <Choose hardware from list>. Don’t perform an automatic search. Choose "IBM Mwave Digital Signal Processor" from the hardware list and accept. Windows will load the driver database and "miroMEDIA Online" will be shown for both, miroMEDIA Online and miroCONNECT 34 cards. When after the installation procedure a message appears that Windows 98 has to be closed, shut down the PC and turn it off. After rebooting the machine several new devices will be found, drivers will automatically be installed and a <Telephone Network Changed> message appears. Please do wait until the <Installation successful> message appears. Accept the <Telephone Network Changed> message again, shut down the PC and switch it off. Now your miroCONNECT 34 / miroMEDIA Online is correctly installed under Windows 98.

It is not possible to activate the Gameport under Windows 98. Please use an additional Game-Card and deactivate the Mwave Gameport in the Windows Device Manager.

miroMEDIA Radio Upgrade cannot be used with Windows 98. The hardware isn’t found.

Should miroCONNECT 34 / miroMEDIA Online not work correctly after installing the drivers as mentioned above, please do as follows:

Remove resource conflicts via the Windows 98 Device Manager. Should there be malfunctions like clipped sound replay or no Modem functionality although no conflicts are indicated in the Device Manager for miroCONNECT 34 / miroMEDIA Online (Mwave, Modem, Sound) another IRQ and/or DMA channel has to be defined for the Mwave DSP.

It may happen that after installation of the system drivers the Mwave Modem occupies COM 1 and thus collides with the Mouse device. In this case another Base Configuration for the Mwave Modem has to be defined in the Device Manager via Keyboard. We advise to de-activate COM 2 in the BIOS Setup of the PC and choose it for the Mwave Modem.

Should despite all these recommendations there be malfunctions it may be necessary to configure the harddisk not to FAT32 but FAT16 file-system

Furthermore the general recommendations in our Tips and Tricks document ftp://ftp.miro.de/pub/tips/eng/ttc34_e.doc should be considered.

These statements only apply to miro System Driver Vers. 3.36. Driver Versions lower 3.36 haven’t been and will not be tested with Windows 98.

There are no installation problems with miroMEDIA Manger. Telephone and answering machine are working correctly. miroMEDIA Radio Upgrade will not be detected and thus cannot be run under Windows 98 with miroMEDIA Online.

MS-Phone can be installed and run under Windows 98. NOTE: To save calls MS Phone requires an MS Exchange Post-Office. As Exchange isn’t a standard component of Windows 98 it has to be installed separately. You will find it on the Windows 98 CD-ROM in the directory TOOLS\OLDWIN95\MESSAGE. There you can find MS FAX and MS EXCHANGE. Both programs have to be installed to get advantage of the phone- and fax functionality of MS Phone under Windows 98.

After the installation of Windows 98 the system indicates that an "Mwave Plug&Play Adapter" was found. Confirm with "Apply". Choose the recommended option "Search for best driver" and "Apply". Insert the miroMEDIA Online PnP driver CD ROM V. 3.36 into the CD drive and let the system search for the driver on "CD-ROM drive". The file MWDSPA03.INF will be found on the CD-ROM. Confirm with "Apply". The installation procedure will be started. After the installation the system reboots. Several new devices will be found, drivers will automatically be installed a <Telephone Network Changed> message appears and program groups will be created. Please do wait until the <Installation successful> message appears. Accept the <Telephone Network Changed> message and restart the system again.

Should miroMEDIA Online PnP not work correctly after installing the drivers as mentioned above, please do as follows:

Please also activate the option <PnP OS installed> in the BIOS Setup of your mainboard and configure the interrupts for miroMEDIA Online PnP (e.g. IRQ 3, 5 and 10) to "NO/ICU" instead of "YES" or (depending on the BIOS manufacturer) to "PCI/ISA PnP" instead of "Legacy ISA".

The actual miroMEDIA Radio driver version 2.00 cannot be installed correctly under Windows´98! The files of APP.ARJ cannot be decompressed (error message) and several times the user will be asked if the installation should be aborted. Please answer these questions with "NO" and continue the installation.
After that do as follows:

Decompress the files of APP.ARJ manually into a temporary directory (please use the program arj.exe with parameter x)

copy files
radiooff.exe
radioreg.exe
reboot.exe
tuner.exe
xrack.exe
from the temporary directory manually into the directory MIRO\RADIO

After rebooting the system miroMEDIA Radio will function without problems under Windows 98.
