There are no Windows 3.x drivers available for miroMEDIA Online PnP. miroMEDIA Online PnP can only be operated under Windows 95. Windows 3.x drivers of the miroMEDIA Online or miroCONNECT 34 cannot be used with miroMEDIA Online PnP.

Should there already be installed an older version of miroCONNECT 34 system software please use the integrated de-install program to delete it before installing the new software. After running the de-installation please check that the directories MWD, MWW and MWAVE_C were completely deleted from your harddisk. Please also make sure that all entries in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT file made during a former installation of the miroCONNECT 34/miroMEDIA Online were deleted.

If you experience problems with miroCONNECT 34/miroMEDIA Online, first install the DOS drivers. Call up the diags.exe test program from the C:\MWD\UTILS directory. Possible conflicts could be indicated. Please make sure that you disconnect the audio cables before calling up the program, otherwise an error message will tell you that the Audio Logic is defective.

Many SET instructions are entered in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file by the installation software, therefore it must be ensured that sufficient free memory is available. You can check this by entering "SET" at the DOS prompt. Among others, the following variables should be shown :

XXX indicates your remaining path data.

If not all SET variables have been listed here, these must be entered in the AUTOEXEC.BAT manually and, if necessary, the memory has to be increased. The latter can be done with the following entry in CONFIG.SYS:

This line should appear at the end of CONFIG.SYS.

On several motherboards, memory optimization may cause problems. If you use the Memory Manager EMM386, please do not use the HIGHSCAN option. Likewise, the memory should not be optimized with MEMMAKER. Should you use QEMM, do not use the "Stealth" option.

Furthermore, check whether the ISA bus clock of your computer is set to max. 8.33 MHz (AT compatible). If the bus clock is higher, this may lead to malfunctioning of the miroCONNECT 34/miroMEDIA Online. On older mainboards, alter the ISA bus clock setting jumper on the mainboard. On newer mainboards, you only have to change the BIOS setting for this item. On detailed instructions how to proceed, please refer to the manual supplied with your mainboard.

Check whether the COM Port specified during configuration is free and is not already in use. Generally, COM Port 3 should be used with the I/O port setting of "03E8 - 03EF" and IRQ 9. Please make sure that these resources are not occupied by other components.

Should there be an EIDE controller with a secondary IDE Port in the computer, Interrupt 15 must not be used as Mwave System IRQ, as this is already being used by the secondary IDE port of your controller.

Installing new graphics board drivers, it may happen that the installation routine of these drivers deletes entries in the "WIN.INI" file. For the miroCONNECT 34/ miroMEDIA Online to be able to respond, the following entries must appear in the RUN line of WIN.INI:
"C:\MWW\MANAGER\MWS.EXE" and "C:\MWW\MODEM\MWMWIN.EXE".
If these entries are missing, please enter them manually.
The line should then be:
"RUN = C:\MWW\MANAGER\MWS.EXE C:\MWW\MODEM\MWMWIN.EXE"

Under DOS, the modem emulation must first be activated with "MWMODEM XXXXXXX" or, already when booting up the computer, with the automatic starting tool FASTCFG. The entry in AUTOEXEC.BAT for calling up FASTCFG is as follows: "CALL MWAVE START". Only thereafter a terminal program can be used under DOS.

First, the CD-ROM driver for the corresponding drive must be installed. Then, the installation program of our CD-ROM installation diskette is called up. In CONFIG.SYS the CDSETUP.SYS entry must appear before the actual CD-ROM driver.

If an IDE-CD-ROM does not function when connected to the card, an EIDE Controller with a secondary IDE Port may already be installed in the system and be activated. If this is the case, the drive must be connected directly to the controller. If your drive should not be an IDE CD-ROM, kindly install the Non-DMA driver (software polling driver) for your CD-ROM.

When inserting the miro driver CD-ROM an installation instruction appears automatically. The installation software requests you in some instances to switch off your computer. Please follow these instructions because otherwise the board will not be detected and the drivers will not be set up correctly.

Should, though the installation was done correctly, the country selection pop up every time you start your system or should US be the only COUNTRY choice offered, there may be not an INTEL CPU but e.g. an AMD K6 processor in your machine. In this case please add these programs to the Autostart group of Windows 95:
cselect.exe (directory \MWW\MANAGER)
mwmwin.exe (directory \MWW\MODEM)

If you own a miroCONNECT 34, Revision 1.x (long board with 3 CD-ROM connectors), you cannot connect Mitsumi and Sony CD-ROM drives to this board. In this case, please use the controller which was supplied with your CD-ROM.

If problems occur with Windows 95 communication software such as Hyperterminal, Internet Access or Dial-up-Networking please check, if the Microsoft Plus package has been installed on your computer. Intalling the complete MS-PLUS package will copy a Dial-up-Networking tool that blocks the modem, so that no other communications software under Windows 95 can use it. In this case de-install the Dial-up-Networking tool.

The option "Wait for Dial-tone" should be de-activated for the miro modem. You’ll find the option in <Control Panel>,<Modems>,<Properties><Resources>.

Such a problem can also be solved by changing a registry entry:
Start the "REGEDIT" program under Windows 95 and find the string "DialSuffix", it’s in folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\Modem\-0000\Settings\.
Delete the entry ";" under DialSuffix and restart Windows

Likewise select another base configuration for the "Mwave 3.36 Data Fax Modem" in the Windows 95 Device Manager. We recommend to configure I/O address 03E8-03EF and IRQ 9. With these settings COM Port 3 will be used. It may also be useful to set the Mwave Modem to COM Port 2. In this case the On-Board COM 2 interface must be disabled in the BIOS setup.

- Delete any mouse-driver from AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS, if exists.
- Delete emm.exe entry from CONFIG.SYS, if exists.
- Make sure that Windows 95 does not operate in DOS compatibility mode. You can check this in
<Control Panel>, <System>, <Performance>.
- De-activate any software running in the background, e.g. virus scanner.
- Do not us Logitech mouse driver, install Microsoft serial mouse driver instead.
- Do not use DRIVESPACE and DOUBLESPACE of Windows 95.
- We recommend these settings for the Speaker Mixer (Volume Control):
Choose "Audio Input Mixer" in <Options>,<Properties>, item "Other" and de-activate volume control
for Line source, CD source and Radio source (if exists).
- In some cases de-activating "Use error control" in <Control Panel>,<Modems>, <Properties>,
Connection>, <Advanced> fixes modem problems.
- In some cases there may be difficulties in sending Faxes from Analog to ISDN connections. If so,
add digits "0" or "1" to the dial-number.

If you’ve connected miroCONNECT 34/miroMEDIA Online to a PBX that affords pressing "Flash"- or "Ground"-key before dialling, please configure the modem as follows:
Open <Control Panel>,<Modems>, <Dialing Properties>, activate "This location has call waiting" and define ">". This is a global parameter which effects every modem connection under Windows 95.

Sometimes it maybe necessary to add "X0" or "X1" to the modem initialization string. By this the modem will dial the desired number although there is still a "busy" on the line. Please make sure to dial the number to access an outside line first. If you are using miroCONNECT 34 office or wave application software please define these settings in "miro Communication Configurator"

Should incoming calls be not accepted the reason may be that the ring-cycles of your PBX do not meet the standard ring-cycles / dial tones of your country. In this case please contact the manufacturer of your PBX to configure internal and external ring-cycles to the standard dial tones of your country.

The application MS Netmeeting 2 does not support the audio functions of miroMEDIA Online, miroMEDIA Online PnP and miroCONNECT 34. Netmeeting 2 can only be run without audio functions.

Please note that some Internet telephone applications need a 14,4kbit connection for full duplex telephony (i.e. listening and speaking at a time). Activate the 14.4k mode of the Mwave Modem via <Programs>, program group <miroMEDIA Online>, <Mwave Modem>,<Options>,<Settings> and note the advice given in the application.

For some Internet telephone applications the volume of the microphone must be increased. You can do so via the MIC source volume control of the speaker mixer in the Audio Input Mixer. To increase the transmission-quality please reduce the preferred quality of the Mwave Audio Driver to "Telephone Quality" or "Radio Quality" via <Control Panel>, <Multimedia>,<Audio>.

miroCONNECT 34/miroMEDIA Online doesn’t support General-MIDI playback in a DOS-Box of Windows 95. MIDI playback is, however, available under Windows 95.
Remedy:
- Start Windows 95 in MS-DOS Mode. In MS-DOS Mode General-MIDI playback is possible.
- Use the "Soundblaster" setting for your DOS games.

It is possible to increase the sound quality of MIDI playback by activation the option "High Quality MPU-401 Sound" in the Mwave MIDI Configurator (file mswitch.exe., to be found in directory \MWW\MANAGER).

If there should be difficulties with Soundblaster emulation mode in a Windows 95 DOS-Box please de-activate "Use automatic settings" in <Control Panel>,<System>,<Device Manager>, "Mwave Soundblaster compatible Device", item "Properties", <Resources>. In some cases selection "Basic configuration 001" or choosing another IRQ may also fix the problem.

There is no access to the Soundblaster emulation mode, when starting the system with a "previous DOS version" or switching directly to the DOS prompt with F8 key before starting Windows95.

The actual miro system software does not support Direct Sound of Direct X. If you have trouble with Direct Sound supported games (e.g. G-Police) you need a Direct Sound Update for miroMEDIA Online, miroMEDIA Online PnP and miroCONNECT 34 from our FTP-Server:

The actual version of the miroCONNECT 34 wave application CD-ROM is Version 3.1. miroCONNECT 34 wave software is a subset of the miroCONNECT 34 office package without miroORG, miroTEXT, miroCALC miroTRAVEL and LapLink. miroCONNECT 34 office isn’t available anymore. An actual miroCONNECT 34 wave CD-ROM can stilll be ordered at company DOMINO Software (see 7.7). There will be no further development on this software.

To use miroVOICE and miroFAX with the actual miro system software V. 3.36 a software update has to be done. The update can be done on condition that miro system software V. 3.36 as well as miroVOICE and miroFAX is already installed on the system. The update is available on the V. 3.36 CD-ROM or on the driver section of our website:
http://www.miro.de/graphics/e/driver/w95/connect95.html.

Some graphics board drivers disturb the installation of the miroCONNECT 34 wave/office software. If your installation was not completed correctly, please delete the "MCO 31" directory on your hard disk. Then install a standard VGA driver under Windows and repeat the miro installation.

If a message appears telling you that it is not possible to write onto device "AUX", this error message was probably caused by an older mouse driver. Please remove all mouse drivers obtained from third party vendors from your system and use the original Microsoft mouse drivers during the installation.

Note: This problem does not exist with miroCONNECT 34 wave/office software version 3.1!

If you wish to send a fax from Word 7.0 using our fax software under Windows 95, it is necessary to disable the Word 7.0 printing-in-background option. This option can be found in Word 7.0 under "Tools"/ "Options... "/"Print" under "Printing Options".

You can also solve this problem by using a separat fax driver from our FTP-Server:

Copy the "FAXLINE2.DRV" into the Windows directory. In doing so, overwrite the existing file.

When printing out maps under miroTRAVEL a protection fault may occur, if you have installed the LapLink software. Unfortunately this problem cannot be solved. You must remove the software LapLink if you want to printout a map under miroTRAVEL.

Before contacting our support, we kindly request you to read the MS Phone manual and refer to the MS Phone Online-help. Some functions depend on country-specific approvals and may be not accessible, e.g. the Caller-ID in Germany. In general, do not use a higher ring count than the telephone approval authority permits. Otherwise, the application may not function properly.
E.g. Germany
Fax: automatic answer after 2 rings
Phone: automatic answer after 4 rings
Higher settings than 5 are available from the application, but not allowed by telephone approvall authority. This will result in misfunction of the application.

The Operation Agent program cannot be used with the miroMEDIA Online board! We have already implement a tool (Discriminator) for recognizing in-coming calls which runs in the background.

Please follow the instructions below to achieve an optimum telephone sound quality with the MS-Phone software:
- Please do not use a stereo microphone. Only connect a mono microphone to the miroMEDIA Online
board. Also pay attention to the impedance values.
- If possible, use headphones for telephoning because disturbing feedback problems might occur
which reduce the sound quality. Please connect the headphones to the output connector of the miro
board.
- To increase the transmission-quality please set the preferred quality of the Mwave Phone Audio
Driver" to "Telephone Quality" or "Radio Quality" via <Control Panel>, <Multimedia>,<Audio>.

For sending and receiving faxes with miroMEDIA Online you’ll have to install Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Fax. Both programs are components of Windows 95 and can be installed via <Control Panel>, "Add/remove software" unless it is already available. To install Microsoft Fax, use "Control Panel", click "Mail and Fax" and "Add".

For automatic Faxback "Use Class 2 if available" has to be de-activated via <Control Panel>, <Mail and Fax>, Microsoft Fax item "Properties" <Modem>, item Properties <Advanced>.

Please use the actual version 2.30 of the miroMEDIA Manager software. In this version all variants of miroCONNECT 34/miroMEDIA Online are supported. You’ll find this latest version on our FTP-Server:

General notes on running different fax aplications on miroCONNECT 34/miroMEDIA Online can be found in the file readme.txt of the miro program group. Please note the system requirements of the fax application and the supported (voice) modem command sets.

The modem list of the actual AOL access software for Windows includes "miroCONNECT 34 wave/office". Please also choose this type when using a miroMEDIA Online. If problems occur when trying to dial AOL please do as follows:
- Check if you selected the correct modem type.
- Please make sure that you specified the correct COM port. In addition, you must have selected the
correct dialing method (tone- or pulse dialing).
- If this does not help, please open the Windows 95 volume control by double-clicking the speaker icon
in the task bar. Switch to "Options" and "Properties", enable the "Audio Input Mixer", and click OK.
Then mute the sound in the "Audio Input Mixer".
- Deaktivate the Mwave Audio Effects.
- Close all Windows applications that are running in the background.
- De-activate "Compress Data" in <Control Panel>,<Modems>, <Properties>, <Connection>, item
"Advanced" and configure maximum speed to 57600 in <Control Panel>,<Modems>, <Properties>.
- Note the general recommendations in 2.3.

The actual CompuServe software recognizes miroCONNECT 34/miroMEDIA Online automatically. To avoid connectivity- and access problems we recommend to configure "CISPPP:PPP connection using CompuServe network". You can do so via <Properties>, <Configure Dial-up Networking>.
In case of dial-in problems please also note the general recommendations in 2.3.

Having installed the actual miro system software V. 3.36 for miroCONNECT 34 / miroMEDIA Online / miroMEDIA Online PnP you need the miroMEDIA Radio driver V. 2.00 for Windows95. You’ll find this driver on our FTP-Server: 208711.zip

If you use the Mwave modem when miroMEDIA Radio is active, the sound of the radio will shortly be switched off and on again. Should there occur difficulties in using the modem a second time (e.g. no function of phone and fax) please do as follows:
Open the Windows Speaker Mixer (volume control) and deactivate "CD source" and "Radio source" of the Audio Input Mixer via <Options>, <Properties>, item "Other".

On mainboards with these chipsets the signal-level of the ISA bus is only 3.3 Volts instead of 5 Volts in previous boards. This alteration of technical specifications may generally lead to malfunctions of ISA cards (as e.g. miroCONNECT 34/miroMEDIA Online) which cannot be fixed. On some mainboards (e.g. ASUS) this problem is solved with Pull Up Resistors. In these there should be no difficulties in operating ISA boards.

To access this list, use the Online-Help for the "Mwave Modem". Call up this tool from the miroMEDIA Online 3.36 program group and activate the menu "Help", "Contents".

There are no plans to provide Windows NT drivers for miroMEDIA Online, miroMEDIA Online PnP and miroCONNECT 34. There is no compatible NT driver of any other vendor of IBM Mwave products that can be used with the cards. If you have to use Windows NT, you’ll find a list of Windows NT compatible sound- and modem adapters in the Windows NT HCL.

miro system software version 3.36 and 3.36 PnP are the latest ones for miroMEDIA Online, miroMEDIA Online PnP, and miroCONNECT 34. There will be no new drivers because the driver development for the Mwave products has been discontinued.

We experienced that this driver is very stable. Problems occuring with other hardware and software and future operating systems will not be solved by new drivers.

miro system software version 2.30 is the latest one for miroCONNECT 34 and miroMEDIA Online. There will be no new driver for DOS or Windows 3.x. There are no drivers for miroMEDIA Online PnP for Windows 3.x or DOS.
