1 General Information:

1.1 If possible, position your miro MONITOR so that the picture tube is facing east-west, i.e. you are facing either to the east or west when looking at your monitor. In addition, you should take into consideration that a monitor is an analogue display unit which operates according to the cathode ray principle, i.e. electromagnetic fields can have a negative influence on image positioning and image geometry so that the image representation exceeds the given tolerances.

1.2 Please, if possible, use the original miro cable, since its shielding is considerably better and can, therefore, withstand interference better than normal VGA cables. Of course, you can get an image on the monitor with normal VGA cables, but we cannot guarantee an optimal display quality if you do not use the combination of miroMonitor and miro cable.

1.3 When using a miro HR5 cable (D-Sub15 - 5BNC), make sure that the colour cables are connected to the corresponding connections on the monitor. Red, green, and blue are self-explanatory; they should be connected to the input jacks marked R, G and B. The horizontal sync signals are transmitted by the black cable. This should be connected to the jacks on the monitor marked H/HV. The yellow cable transmits the vertical sync signals and has to be connected to the input jack on the monitor marked V.

1.4 Kindly note that the monitor cables used by miro are all approx. 2 m long. All cables have a wave resistance. This is 75 Ohm for miro cables. As was previously the case, it is also important that the video board is adapted to the monitor via the monitor cable, since you may get so-called shadow-images on the monitor if you used a longer cable as the board and monitor have not been adapted to one another.

1.5 Before judging the image quality and colour reproduction, give your monitor about 20 minutes to reach the optimal operating temperature.

1.6 For all miro monitors with Black TRINITRON © tubes, two thin horizontal hair-lines in the upper and lower third of the picture tube can be seen, depending on the contrast and brightness settings. This is not an error in the video board driver; these are two fixing wires used to provide the band mask with greater stability. These fixing wires are there by design and are found on all monitors with TINITRON tubes. Despite these hair-lines, the Trinitron tube has many advantages compared to the shadow mask tubes and is preferred when high-quality PC work on the Macintosh or Workstation, is called for. This feature also occurs in monitors which operate with a DIAMONDTRON picture tube.

1.7 Miro monitors can also only output the signal they receive, this means that the representation on miro monitors will be inferior if the video board being used sends a poor quality signal or the refresh rate is under 70 Hz.

2. Problems with miro monitors

2.1. No display on the monitor
Causes:
1. The monitor is not turned on or the power cable is not connected.
2. The monitor cable is not connected to the monitor.
3. The monitor cable is not connected to the correct jack on the video board.
4. The monitor has a technical defect.
Solutions:
1. Check the power cable connection or, if necessary, turn the monitor on.
2. Connect the monitor cable to the monitor.
3. Read the video board manual and connect the cable to the correct jack.
4. Request PRN-No. from the service department and send monitor with PRN-No. to miro Service.

2.2. The image constantly flickers
Causes:
1. You are using a two monitor solution and have placed the second monitor directly next to the miro monitor. The electromagnetic field of the second monitor is influencing the miro monitor.
2. There is an electromagnetic source close to the monitor.
3. You are using CAD and have a digitizer directly in front of the monitor.
Solutions:
1. Set up your second monitor approx. 50 cm away from your miro monitor.
2. You may have a halogen light with a transformer, a laser printer or other similar device close to the monitor. Try to pinpoint the possible sources and take appropriate action.
3. Place the digitizer further away from the monitor.

2.3.The image geometry is no longer correct
Causes:
1. An electromagnetic source is causing the interference.
2. You enlarged the area that can be represented beyond the specified range.
3. According to the earth's magnetic field, the monitor is not positioned in an east-west direction.
4. Transport, other.
Solutions:
1. Pinpoint the sources of the interference, e.g. transformer, cable duct in the wall or other.
2. Press the reset button on the processor controlled miro monitor, or hold down the + and - adjust keys and switch the monitor off and then on again, right away.
3. Turn the monitor approx. 90 or until there is a visible improvement. Position the monitor facing east-west if possible.
4. See item 2. If that is not possible or it does not help, send the monitor with a PRN-No. to miro Service for adjustment.

2.4 The image positioning is lop-sided, i.e. outside the permissible tolerance
Cause: Electromagnetic field and/or the earth's magnetic field.
Solution: Position the monitor facing east-west. If necessary, turn the monitor approx. 90 or until the display improves. Since the earth's magnetic field cannot be modified, try setting up the monitor somewhere else.

2.5 The convergency of the monitor is no longer correct
Causes:
1. Transport, natural ageing of the monitor components.
2. Maladjustment of the convergency on processor-controlled miro monitors.
Solutions:
1. Press the reset button on the monitor, or hold down the + and - adjust keys and switch the monitor off and then on again.
2. Send the monitor with PRN-No. to miro Service for technical check and adjustment.

2.6 The colours on the monitor do not correspond to the original
Causes:
1. The BNC cable is not properly connected to the monitor.
2. The monitor has not yet reached the ideal operating temperature.
Solutions:
1. Check the connections of R, G and B.
2. Let the monitor warm up for approx. 20 minutes until it reaches the ideal operating temperature.

2.7 The monitor flickers constantly on bright backgrounds
Causes:
1. You are operating your miro Monitor with a video board, which works in interlaced mode.
2. Your video board cannot handle a refresh rate of more than 70 Hz at the selected resolution.
3. You are using a miro Monitor with a horizontal frequency of 64kHz or 66kHz and are running an application at a resolution of 1280 x 1024, resulting in a refresh rate of 60Hz.
Solutions:
1. Use a video board that also works in non-interlaced mode, e.g. video boards from miro.
2. Lower the set resolution and/or use a video board that can handle the desired resolution at a refresh rate of more than 70 Hz.
3. Lower the set resolution of the video board and/or use a monitor that can process a higher horizontal frequency.

2.8 There is a temporary moiré effect when the TRINITRON monitor is switched on
Cause: With TRINITRON © - or DIAMONDTRON © picture tubes, it lies in their design.
Solution:
1. Let the monitor warm up to operating temperature. The moiré pattern should then disappear by itself.
2. In some models, e.g. miroC2193, as described in the handbook, activate the Moiré-Clear function.

2.9 The miro monitor does not operate on a VGA or other primary video board
Causes:
1. The miro monitor being used is a fixed-frequency monitor and only synchronizes under a fixed frequency, which is not supported by the video board.
2. The miro monitor is a multi-frequency monitor, but it was set for operation outside its admissible horizontal frequency range.
Solutions:
1. None, use a multi-frequency monitor.
2. Read the manual for the miro monitor and determine the max. admissible range for the synchronization of this monitor.

2.10 The miro multi-frequency monitor will not synchronize
Causes:
1. The black and yellow cables for the sync signals have been inadvertently swopped.
2. The video board is sending a signal with a horizontal frequency above the range at which the monitor can synchronize.
Solutions:
1. Swop the black and yellow BNC connection cables on the monitor.
2. None, read the video board manual and use a monitor, which, as specified, is also able to synchronize the signals from this video board.

2.11 miro Monitor, with a dual-monitor solution, flickers and does not synchronize on booting.
Cause: The fixed-frequency monitor from miro only synchronizes at a fixed frequency, but is receiving a looped-through VGA signal.
Solution: Obtain the new driver update or call technical support and enquire about possible solutions.

2.12 The picture of the miroC2078, when using the miroMAGIC HR MC, is not synchronized when booting
Cause: The two-monitor solution with the miroMAGIC HR/MC in the MicroChannel computer. On MC computers, it is possible to have a Digital-Loop-Through on the motherboard, i.e. the VGA signal is looped through.
Solution: Plug the 9-pole connector of the Analogue-Loop-Through cable, included with the graphics board, into the input jack of the miroMAGIC HR/MC and let the other end dangle freely.

2.13 No synchronisation with monitors like GDM xxxx
Cause: The monitors are fixed frequency monitors which where not supported by our actual single-screen-graphic-cards. Only the twin-screen-solutions from miroMEDIA like the miroCRYSTAL 22 SD twin are able to support these monitors as secondary screens.

3. Problems with miro Monitors on the Macintosh

3.1 No display on the monitor
Causes:

3.2 The miro monitor does not operate on a primary video board
Causes:

3.3 The miro multi-frequency monitor will not synchronize
Causes:

3.4 miro monitor no longer synchronizes on a new Macintosh
Cause: The miro monitor being used, was run on a Macintosh on which Sync on Green (synchronisation done in green) was available. The new one, however, operates with Separate Sync (synchronization is done separately under Horizontal or Vertical Sync).
Solution: Under the prerequisite, that the miro Monitor has the possibility of processing Separate Sync, a new cable or adapter, which is, likewise, able to process Separate Sync, is sufficient.
